Whitefish Avalanche Dogs

We have avalanche dogs that work with us at Whitefish Mountain Resort. As all pet owners know there are many annual costs that come with having a furry family member, and working dogs are no exception. Our avalanche dogs are not just family, they are co-workers essential to our avalanche rescue program and serving the safety of our community. They go through extensive training each year. Your donation can help with all of the costs of keeping our avalanche dogs well-trained and healthy. Thank you to all of our amazing Avalanche Dog Sponsors this year.

CLEO

Cleo came to us via Western Border Collie Rescue in Heber City, UT at the age of 5 months. She started her avalanche training a month later and successfully completed the Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association (CARDA) puppy training profile the next season. At age 2, she validated as an operational A level avalanche rescue dog. She misses her mentor, Jett, but embraces her role bossing around the young pups.

Oaken

Oaken is a two-year-old, 40 lb fur missile who was donated to our program after the passing of our beloved Jett. Oaken shows a lot of promise and is happiest at the end of a spirited game of tug of war. Oaken looks to continue his training in hopes to fill those big paw prints left behind.

Skook

Skook the Patrol Fund Avalanche Dog

Skook is a three-year-old border collie that came to us from Sandy, Utah from the Western Border Collie Rescue. Skook started training as an avalanche dog at the age of 7 months and validated through Northern Rockies Avalanche Canines in February 2024. He is fired up any time he is training or getting his tug reward after a drill. Skook loves snowmobile rides and meeting new friends. When he isn't being an avalanche dog, he loves to be on the water.
